Product Description Band of Brothers (DVD)They were ordinary men, swept up in the most extraordinary conflict in history. But with the eyes of the world upon them, they found their greatest source of strength in each other. Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and HBO present the story of Easy Company, an elite team of U.S. paratroopers whose World War II exploits are as incredible as they are true. This landmark ten-part miniseries based on Stephen E. Ambrose's non-fiction best-seller recounts the remarkable achievements of a volunteer rifle company that parachuted into France on D-Day, spearheaded the Market-Garden and Rhine offensives, fought the Nazis in Bastogne and the Bulge and captured Hitler's 'impenetrable' Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden in 1945.]]> Review An extraordinary 10-part series, Band of Brothers masters its greatest challenge: it balances the ideal of heroism with the violence and terror of battle, reflecting what is both civilized and savage about war. --Caryn James of the New York TimesIt is doubtful that any war movie on the large or small screen has captured the varied experiences of ordinary soldiers better than Band of Brothers. Whether it's the sheer terror of facing an unseen enemy or the momentary joy following a successful mission, the mini eschews the typical movie cliches while revealing and reveling in the humanity within each member of Easy Company. --Barry Garron of The Hollywood Reporter P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Set Contains: HBO's impressive miniseries may have the most handsome DVD packaging to date: a tin container enclosing the accordion sleeves holding six discs. The extras on the set are just as classy. Besides the rudimentary 30-minute making-of, there's an hour's worth of video diaries by actor Ron Livingston (who portrays Lewis Nixon) detailing the tough "actors' boot camp." The first-person recollections of the real Easy Company soldiers that begin each episode are expanded in the 80-minute documentary We Stand Alone Together. The real footage and heartfelt recollections complement the series, but viewers may want more interaction between the lifelong friends. The documentary is better in the final minutes, when the veterans are not talking about the specific incidents depicted in the film. Another big help in this set is the "field guide," a dossier of maps, glossary, definitions of ranks, a timeline, and a who's who for each episode. --Doug Thomas See more
